ARTIST STATEMENT
What does it mean to be human right now? Does it mean accelerating through portholes? The excessive mania-ridden wasteland of jarring visual culture? Culture wars? Death drive? Freud’s pleasure principle — seeking pleasure to avoid pain? Does being human conclude with a forced choice, as in Gustav Fechner’s psychophysical method? Which do you choose? Schizophrenia? Capitalism? Pop culture as metaphor? Now colliding, imploding, the real, the sophomoric, and the declaration of life’s negative and positive poles, of feeling through this? Closed captioning as moral compass, maybe? Patterns as integrated referent, the signified, aesthetics as signifier. And all the while you’re sanguine and coping? You’re being serious about having fun, about inclusivity and pluralism. A non-sequitur, nihilism, and the sublime coming together, now. You cannot have the good without the bad; acceptance of both is a declaration of both.

But I digress….

We are collaborators. We have extended our practice to include traditional painting, digital programming. Moving through both the analogue and digital like twine tangled in its own shadows. Our practice is educed by the present. A visual conversation with a dash of humor, gesture and abundance of intentional cliché’s. Our intent is to entice and repulse at the same time.

Visuals in the trees….
